Maniac Mansion Day Of The Tentacle2.txt Maniac Mansion Day Of The Tentacle Maniac Mansion Day Of The Tentacle is a 1993 graphical adventure game developed and published by LucasArts. It is a sequel to the 1987 game Maniac Mansion. The story follows Bernard Bernoulli and his friends Hoagie and Laverne as they try to stop the evil Purple Tentacle - a conscious, disembodied tentacle - from taking over the world. The player takes control of the trio and solves puzzles, using time travel to explore different periods of the story. Dave Grossman and Tim Schafer co-led the development of the game for the first time in such a role. The pair carried a limited number of items from Maniac Mansion and dropped the character selection aspect to simplify development. The inspiration was caricatures of Chuck Jones and the history of the United States. Day of the Tentacle was the eighth LucasArts game to feature the SCUMM engine. The game was released simultaneously on floppy disk and CD-ROM, gaining critical acclaim and commercial success. Critics focused on cartoon graphics and comedy elements. Macki Day was featured regularly in the "best" games lists published more than two decades after its release, and was mentioned in popular culture. The remastered version of Day of the Tentacle was developed by current Schafer studio, Double Fine Productions, and was released on March 22, 2016 for Windows, OS X, Linux, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vitaz with the release of Xbox One in October 2020, five years after the events of Maniac Mansion Violet Tentacle - A mutant monster and lab assistant created by mad scientist Dr. Fred Edison - drinks toxic river sludge behind Dr. Fred's lab. The slime causes the tentacles to grow arms, makes them smarter and thirsts for power. Dr. Fred plans to solve the problem by killing the purple tentacle and its harmless, friendly brother the green tentacle, who sends a help request to his old friend Bernard Bernoulli. Bernard arrives at Edison's family motel with medical student Laverne and roadie Hoagie, and releases the tentacles. The purple tentacle escapes and resumes its plan to take over the world. It was the last SCUMM game to use the original interface where the bottom of the screen was occupied by command selections and inventory; Starting with the next game using SCUMM Sam & Max Hit the Road, the engine has been tweaked to scroll through a larger list of verbs with the right mouse button and have the inventory on a separate screen.
