Super Stardust 96 - MS-DOS

Super Stardust 962.txt Super Stardust 96 Super Stardust 96 is an excellent arcade shooter that combines immersive gameplay with breathtaking ray tracing and fully animated 3D graphics, digital music and sound effects to give you a wonderful feast of your life. Your goal is simple - destroy everything in sight and collect weapons and upgrades that will help you in the task. Fight your way through 5 worlds and 4 warp gates to reach the end and take on Professor Schaumund himself. The game features more enemies, explosions, debris, action, and destruction than most PC games. According to the game's official website for Housemarque, Super Stardust was "the first true PC arcade shooter ever!" and the game certainly deserves that claim. Among the many features are: true arcade quality, powerful and fully animated enemies, real-time glow and transparency effects, digital music and sound effects, and much more. The game also deserves a mention for its solid coding - according to the official website, "technical excellence meant a constant 70Hz screen update and highly optimized code guaranteed unbelievable arcade-quality interaction on your own computer." It is a pity that this PC version was not as widely distributed as its Amiga cousin, and the US-released GameTek did much worse than the European publisher Team 17, which made the game literally unknown in the US. Even so, you have the chance to try out one of the BEST shooters ever made for the PC. Two thumbs up, up!
