5 Games to Slay Your Way Through After Diablo 4

Diablo has always been a special series for action RPG and dungeon crawler fans. Since the early days of almost single-handedly defining the genre to Diablo 4 continuing to be one of the most loved games in what is now a bustling marketplace of like games.

While Diablo 4 is a huge game which you can plunge hundreds of hours into, it won’t keep you entertained forever. But if you’re anything like me, you’ll still want to get those hits of dopamine which only a dungeon crawler can deliver. If that’s the case, this list is for you.

These are five games to play after you’ve worked your way through Diablo 4, but still want more.

1. Path of Exile

One of the most high profile ARPGs out there, this likely isn’t the first time you’ve heard of Path of Exile (POE). Developed by the talented team at Grinding Gear Games, POE draws deep inspiration from the Diablo series.

POE delves deep into a dark and gritty atmosphere, with various classes and playstyles to choose from to tear through hordes of enemies.

Path of Exile is deeply inspired by Diablo 2 (not 4), seeing it integrate plenty of design decisions from earlier ARPGs while modernising them. This, combined with the epic work by the dev team, has turned POE into a game with a seriously steep learning curve—but one which is incredibly rewarding. Especially for veterans of the genre.

That said, playing POE just made me want to dive back into Diablo. If you try and balance both games it can be a lot of work, so you may want to buy Diablo 4 gold to keep your Diablo account up while diving into POE.

2. Grim Dawn

Take everything from ARPGs and change the setting from fantasy to the post-apocalypse, and you’ll get Grim Dawn. Taking place in a bleak world shrouded in chaos, Grim Dawn has plenty of customisation options allowing your character to specialised in different fighting styles and abilities, in order to create plenty of unique, viable builds.

If you want more ARPG and need a new setting to boot, this one is for you.

3. Torchlight 2

Torchlight 2 has a unique history, given that a number of the core development team worked on the original Diablo. Because of that, Torchlight 2 feels very much like Diablo. Albeit in a notably lighter and more charming world, contrasting the darkness which has always been core to the Diablo series’ identity.

But don’t let that change in aesthetics fool you, Torchlight 2 is an incredibly competent dungeon crawler with tonnes of abilities, endless loot and hordes of enemies all for your enjoyment. Oh, and you can play local co-op with this one!

4. Warhammer 40,000: Chaosbane

Warhammer games have often drawn a lot of inspiration from the work of Blizzard. Chaosbane is no different. While this game is set in the wonderful, dark and lore-heavy world of Warhammer 40k, it’s gameplay is sure to scratch the itches of Diablo 4 players.

Choose from iconic Warhammer classes from Space Marines to Witch Hunters and blast your way through hordes alone or with friends.

5. Hades / Hades 2

Turning away from Diablo-likes, Hades is an action RPG roguelike. Here, instead of working on long-term character builds, you play in short rounds lasting up to an hour or so. Turning Zagreus—the son of Hades—from a charming go-getter to a formidable force blessed with the powers of many of the Greek gods. Being a roguelike, it’s focused on hard gameplay, randomization and moment-to-moment decisions. But beyond gameplay, this game features a great art style.

Whether you’re looking for a Diablo-like or something new, this list has broken down a number of games which are sure to deliver plenty more dungeon-diving thrills.
